Dr. Patricio Varela Balbontín

Nowadays, Dr. Patricio Varela is professor of pediatric surgery on the Universidad de Chile, and works in the Calvo Mackenna Children’s Hospital, and the Clínica Las Condes, both located in Santiago de Chile. Is the director of: the programme of the Development Centre of Postgraduate in video pediatric surgery, the Thoracic and Airway Malformations Unity, the training programme of airway surgery and thoracic malformations. Has been president of the Pediatric Surgery Society in Chile, and the Cono Sur of America CIPESUR Society of Societies, and founder member of ALMAT (Latinoamerican Society of Thoracic Malformations). Belongs to the Fellowship Commitee of WOFAPS, and is honor member of the Guatemala and Ecuador societies of pediatric surgery.

 

Dr. Donald Nuss
Norfolk. Virginia. USA

Donald Nuss, M.B.,Ch.B., FRCS(C), FACS, FAAP, received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1963. Dr. Nuss completed his General Surgery Residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and Mayo Clinic in 1971 and his Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town in 1973. Dr. Nuss served as the Director of CHKD’s Division of Pediatric Surgery and Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health System, Inc.

Dr. Nuss served on the Medical Executive Committee of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for 25 years and as Surgeon-in-Chief and Vice President for Surgical Affairs for 20 years. He helped facilitate the development of the operating rooms at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and saw the volume of surgical patients grow from 2,200 patients per annum to over 11,000 patients per annum during his tenure as Surgeon-in-Chief.

Dr. Nuss is the developer of the Minimally Invasive Procedure for Pectus Excavatum and conducts an intensive international workshop and training course each year at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Nuss is emeritus Professor of Surgery at EVMS and prior to his retirement in 2010 was Surgeon-in-Chief and Vice President for Surgical Affairs at CHKD for 19 years.

 

Dr. Philippe Monnier

Nowadays, Prof. Philippe Monnier is professor emeritus and former chairman of the Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Department, in the University Hospital CHUV, on the School of Biology and Medecine, in the University of Lausanne. In 1974, received the Swiss Federal Diploma of Medecine and has been excercising medicine since then. Belongs to more than ten medical societys, including the Swiss Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Chest Physicians, or the European Laryngological Society. Nowadays. Is the president of the Swiss Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and Secretary and Treasurer of ELA. Has been publicated 373 articles and book chapters.

 

Dr. Catherine Hart
Otorhinolaryngologist. Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. Cincinnati. USA

Dr. Hart is a faculty member in the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She has specialized training in the management of pediatric airway stenosis through her fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center under the guidance of Drs. Robin Cotton, Michael Rutter and Alessandro de Alarcon. She also specializes in management of children with complex aerodigestive disorders, including children with CHARGE syndrome. She has completed additional training in quality improvement and outcomes research through the Quality Scholars Program at the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence. Her research focus is on pediatric airway outcomes.

Dr. Michele Torre

Il Dott. Torre è Laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia presso l’Università degli Studi di Genova, e Specializzato in Chirurgia Pediatrica, avendo discusso la tesi: ”Le malformazioni congenite della parete toracica”. Da dicembre 2002 è Dirigente Medico di primo livello a tempo indeterminato presso la UOC di Chirurgia Pediatrica dell’Istituto Giannina Gaslini di Genova, diretta dal prof. G.Mattioli. E’ Direttore della UOSD Team Interdipartimentale delle Vie Aeree dell’Istituto Giannina Gaslini da gennaio 2015. Nel 2014 ha superato l’Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale per Professore di seconda fascia. Professore a contratto nelle scuole di specialità in Chirurgia Pediatrica, Pediatria, Chirurgia Plastica. E’ stato il responsabile scientifico dei seguenti meeting internazionali: “Interactive Course on management of Chest wall and laryngotracheal anomalies”, (Genova Giugno 2012); “Pectus and Airway Surgery Course 2015” (Genova, Marzo 2015); First Meeting of International Network of Pediatric Airway Teams (INPAT), Genova 2017. E’ stato il responsabile scientifico del Corso accreditato ECM a durata annuale “Casi clinici di patologia delle vie aeree” che si sono tenuti nel 2013 e 2014 presso l’Istituto Gaslini. Il dott. Torre ha eseguito come primo operatore più di 100 interventi chirurgici su casi complessi di anomalie delle vie aeree. Il dott. Torre ha pubblicato più di 80 articoli su riviste nazionali ed internazionali e 7 capitoli di libri. Si riportano qui solo le pubblicazioni scientifiche relative alle patologie delle vie aeree.
